- Affordable Housing: Every citizen should have the right to safe, secure and affordable housing. To guarantee housing as a human right, we must invest in construction of thousands of new housing units, “Missing Middle”. As rent goes up wages have stagnated now is the time to act. Unless we reject the status quo, we will see the dream of an affordable home continue to slip away.· I will support and provide the municipal government with the necessary tools and resources to take action to reduce homelessness.· Implement a housing first approach to homelessness with increased coordination with cities, state agencies and non-profits groups to find unhoused residents permanent housing and provide wrap around services for success.· Eliminate exclusionary zoning policies that have led to inefficient use of land, contributed to climate change crisis and exacerbated housing affordability. The root causes of housing instability can be a lost job, an eviction, a sick kid, a sick parent, a caregiver who had passed away. Limited access to adequate mental health care, childcare and transportation. The Twin cities tight housing market (only 1%)of the metro area’s rental unit are vacant. Affordable housing affects the whole community and indeed the county. Workforce housing is critical for local businesses and the whole school district to thrive.
- Support Small Business: With my experience as a small business owner, I understand what it takes to grow the economy and create jobs. I’ll work to reduce the regulatory burden on Hennepin District 6 businesses and entrepreneurs. Working capital, Provide low cost loan, money) to scale their business. - Seniors Aging in Place: I’ll work to protect seniors’ ability to age in place, fighting to keep income, property and estate taxes manageable; and make it easier to save for long-term care costs.
- Public Safety and Policing: No matter what we look like or where we come from, we all want to be safe in our homes and communities. Yet a few politicians are trying to profit from division by fanning the flames of fear and chaos. It is time that we fully fund and expand public safety, so every family, from city to suburbs has professionals that keep us safe and address the root causes of crime. The county has taken bold steps to assign social workers to Police departments they do follow up. Mental Health treatment, housing, after school activities, competent policing and diversion programs that create public safety. Instead of punishment being our first and last line of defense. Together we can create a future that has prevention and restoration.
- Environmental and Climate justice: The climate crisis is an existential threat to humanity. Scientists agree we have only 10 years before irreversible change is done to our planet. Being good stewards of our natural resources, while promoting energy independence, is important. I’ll invest in solutions to protect our county’s water quality and champion affordable energy solutions that work for Hennepin County businesses, consumers and our environment – while encouraging energy independence. As a Commissioner I will work closely on environmental issues with the technical, the legal minds and subject matter experts. I will rely upon science and facts to drive and influence decision making.
- Transportation & Transit: I believe Hennepin County knows where they want to go and how they want to get there; it’s government’s responsibility to support those needs in the most cost-effective way possible. I’ll work to ensure the priorities of Hennepin County District 6 and our businesses are reflected in our county transportation funding – including roads, the lifeblood of our county’s economic prosperity.
- Health and Human Services: Data shows that communities of color, low-wealth families, and residents with disabilities are most at risk from negative climate impacts, social and economic impact. For the 230,000 people living in adjacent neighborhoods of Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) are mostly made up of low-income folks and people of color. Poor health- mean more tax dollar (from Hennepin Resident) to fund Health and Human services, ($33,000,000) is tied to medical Assistant to treat these asthma cases brought by caused by the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC).
